Loved Nerja

Sunny Nerja -

the small town with the big charm!
Nerja is a cozy little Spanish coastal town about an hour from Malaga airport. There is a so-called microclimate here, with Swedish summer all year round. In winter, it is always a few degrees warmer in Nerja than in Malaga and Marbella!

The easiest way to travel here is with one of all direct flights to Malaga. From Malaga you can take a taxi (about 70 euros), take a bus or rent a car to get to Nerja. The city is alive all year round thanks to its location and the constant crowd of tourists who want to discover this gem. In Nerja, about 20,000 Spaniards live and live their lives, which makes the city alive and just as pleasant to visit all year round!

Nerja differs from many of the other resorts on the Spanish sunny coast in that it almost completely lacks high-rise buildings. In the city center there are only two- and three-storey houses, many are several hundred years old.

Nerja is the absolute gem along the coast of Spain. Here you can get help with everything you need from the local travel agency and booking center BokaNerja.

In addition to the fact that this part of the Costa del Sol is microclimatically favored and statistically has among Europe's absolute best climate, there are a number of factors that place Nerja at the top. It is an incredibly beautiful nature with dramatic mountains whose foothills cut all the way down to the water. This means that there are not miles of impersonal beaches but a number of bays with protected sandy beaches of between 150-700m.

Maybe that's also why Nerja does not look like too many exploited resorts with a long line of high-rise hotels and nightclubs along the beach. In Nerja, whitewashed house walls, palm trees, flower groups and wrought iron rule. Nerja is thus still a genuinely small and beautiful Andalusian town and the population is not reduced to ice cream vendors but lives a real life, some traditionally like the fishermen on the beach, the little black-clad aunts and fruit vendors but just as much there are modern young people and professionals. Throughout, the people of Nerja are perceived as extremely friendly and welcoming. You are not in such a hurry but always have time for a chat. Foreigners first notice that the cars stop as soon as you approach a pedestrian crossing or when someone has to unload their car and five other cars kindly wait behind without getting annoyed. If a car honks, it is usually because the driver cheers on a friend.

Nerja thus stands out as the unspoilt and beautiful little Andalusian town by the sea. This is in comparison with many times worn or overexploited cities along the Sun Coast. Everyone wants a part of the favorable climate and that rush has in some places become a lot of good. When the travel magazine Vagabond did a report about the cities along the Sun Coast, it was ONLY NERJA that got 5 stars.

Of course, some new things have been built here as well, but everything is done in a traditional style with low houses and the city is very fresh and beautiful. The large number of cleaning workers is easily recognizable by their orange suits and the city is clean and tidy. So there are only a few single all-inclusive hotels, dominating making a sufficient number of smaller hotels to accommodate a tourism that comes from all over the world. This means an international atmosphere with good restaurants, outdoor cafes and pubs, which at the same time makes it very easy to be.

A famous landmark and center of the city is the so-called. The European balcony, a medieval defense facility and foothills in the sea that in the 19th century was converted into a strolling path. For those interested in history, Nerja has been inhabited by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors who have left their mark.

There is an expression here that those who have been to Nerja always come back and that seems to be true of everyone. The founders Magnus and Eva even jokingly warn first-time visitors to Nerja that a visit to Nerja can seriously affect your life planning - it has been true for many over the years, guests return, buy houses, move down ... And that was especially true for Tuva and Timo who are now new owners of BokaNerja, and Nerjabor!

Nerja also has Europe's largest cave system, a magical experience with large halls and, among other things. the world's largest column. A total of about 700m but more are still to be found. It is 20 degrees in the caves year round if you walk around the part shown in 30-40 minutes. Even if you think you have seen large caves before, most people are clearly impressed.
