Right now:

Healthy tourists are warmly welcomed to Nerja and Malaga Airport! Requirements for PCR tests and health certificates still apply. It is fully allowed to land at the airport in Malaga and take a transfer as usual to your accommodation (even if it would be Perimeter quarantine), or come by car. Transit is permitted in accordance with the Schengen Agreement. See below for local restrictions, and travel responsibly.

There is no travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for travel within Europe between Sweden and Spain. At airports and during the flight, there are mouth protection requirements, and everyone who flies Sweden-Spain must have tested themselves. You are definitely safer during the trip than when visiting a shopping center in Sweden ...

Basics about canceling and rebooking our trips, regarding:

As long as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not advise against traveling to the Malaga region, and the spread of infection is low, our usual cancellation rules apply. Read more about cancellation policy and our COVID19 security package here.

If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to a country or at a lockown / infection hotspot, you who have booked a package trip may have the right to get your money back if you do not want to travel. If we cancel your package trip, you ALWAYS get your money back according to the package travel law. Follow the Foreign Ministry's recommendations and advice, and read more about your rights at KO:

How do you know what applies in Nerja in particular?

There have been a lot of question marks and discussions during the pandemic in various forums about what really applies in Spain. Are tourists welcome? Which areas are not so affected by Covid19? The reason for the confusion and the difficulty of finding correct information is that the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid usually conveys general information from the Spanish national level, but that different rules have applied in different autonomous regions, provinces and municipalities. We therefore concentrate here only on what applies in Nerja / Malaga / Andalusia.

Throughout Spain, there are 17 autonomous regions, divided into 50 provinces, and over 8100 municipalities. Nerja is a small municipality on the outskirts of the province of Malaga, which belongs to Andalusia (Spanish: Andalucía), a region in southern Spain. Andalusia is the most populous (about 8.4 million inhabitants) and the second largest of Spain's seventeen autonomous regions. The capital of the region is Seville. There are 8 provinces and 771 municipalities. The main industry is tourism, not least along the coast where Nerja is located, right on the border between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical.

To the Spanish capital Madrid it is about 50 km from Nerja, and takes about 5-6 hours by car or train. Madrid has been hit hard by Covid19, and several rules in provinces and municipalities on the Costa del Sol have aimed to prevent infection by "keeping the people of Madrid" away.

As I said, some rules are determined centrally, some in the various regions, and some locally in the municipalities.

Ongoing updates regarding restrictions etc. in Nerja - summaries by us:

21-03-30

Healthy tourists are warmly welcomed to Nerja and Malaga airport. Requirements for PCR tests for Swedish travelers and health certificates still apply. Short restrictions in place right now - free movement within the Malaga region, mouth guards when you go out, hand alcohol everywhere, restaurants open until 22.30 and between 23-06 you should stay at home. Otherwise normal everyday life for both residents and tourists!

Healthy tourists are warmly welcomed to Nerja. Requirements for PCR tests and health certificates still apply. More info below, or contact us for information about the current situation!

If you follow the link below and go to the bottom of the page where it says "Abla", you can choose "Nerja" at municipal level instead and see the number of infected last 7/14 days.

20/11/09

After the spring lockdown, Nerja has been open to tourism since May. But due to the "second wave" now throughout Europe and attempts to prevent the spread of infection, all municipalities in Andalusia will have perimeter quarantine from midnight today 9th until 23rd November. This means that you can only cross municipal boundaries (eg between Malaga and Nerja) with valid reasons such as job, education etc. Transfers from the airport to holiday accommodation are also allowed - but then of course the local rules apply. Tightening of the restrictions will also be introduced: for example, curfews at 22-07, and bars / restaurants will be forced to close at 18.00.
We take care of the guests we have here in Nerja, and hope that these restrictions will be released on 24 November. But the situation now is uncertain, the government and the 17 regions will evaluate every 14 days.

20/10/30

National emergency announced 29/10 to 9/11

Several borders in Andalusia are closed for in / out travel, but since Malaga and Nerja are classified in the lowest risk level and no so-called "Perimeter quarantine" applies in the municipalities, flights to Malaga and transfers to Nerja are also allowed during this period. At the time of writing, it is also allowed to take a transfer at night, book our transfer here. Rules and guidelines can change quickly, however, contact us for current information.

Our guests here right now feel safer than in Sweden. If you also feel safe traveling, welcome to us! Review your travel insurance, follow local recommendations, keep your distance and wash your hands.

Here is a long Facebook post about the situation of the owners Tuva & Timo

20/10/01

Our region has coped well with infection, but as the "second wave" is sweeping across Europe and local hotspots are flaring up, travel is low. Nerja is open, but unusually empty of people. Several hotels and some restaurants are choosing to close for a few months now that it is also low season, some until Easter 2021.

Our nice apartment hotel Nerjaluna and all private accommodation are open for rent, we are on site here in Nerja for you as usual! During October 2020 - January 2021, our office on Calle Granada is open for booked visits and arrivals / check-ins. Contact us for the current location and bookings!

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for reports on life in Nerja and us <3

Nerja is open, our office is open! Weekdays 10-14 until further notice. Welcome, thank you for all the support during the Corona crisis.

20/04/12

Almost a month has passed with "lock-down" in Spain, and large parts of the world. The consequences of the pandemic are currently unmanageable. Follow the current situation via e.g.

https://www.swedenabroad.se/sv/utlandsmyndigheter/spanien-madrid/

Covid19 keeps the world in an iron grip. A few weeks ago, we worked hard here in Nerja to help all our guests get home to Sweden. Rebookings and refunds for canceled trips and excursions are still in progress - we ask for patience in this process. Nothing works as usual with, for example, the airlines, there is a high workload and we are waiting to be notified of government efforts regarding the package travel law in this extreme situation. Our small travel agency's office on Calle Granada 62 is closed as long as Spanish law prescribes this and until we have your guests back. We are of course here for you by email all the time, and phone weekdays 10-16.

Here in Nerja, lockdown / quarantine prel is extended to 10/5. Spain plans to gradually release the quarantine.

We suffer with all the affected people and businesses, here and around the world. But hold on ❤️

We will do that, there will be better times! Take care of the little things in everyday life, spread love and care. And dare to dream of coming here to Nerja again!

According to our regular cancellation policy, you will never get back the reservation fee. But in this extreme situation, during the entire period when the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travel (currently 14 / 3-15 / 6), those with an arrival date during this period, have free rebooking to the arrival date no later than 15 June 2021 and thus have the entire reservation fee to credit. This follows the Spanish Government's recommendations.

For refunds under the Package Travel Act, or refunds of airline tickets - contact us.

Book Nerja temporarily changes its rebooking rules due to Covid19 - full security with free rebooking.

All our accommodation booked during the period 12 April - 1 June 2020 is fully rebookable free of charge. If you book, for example, the midsummer trip now or your winter trip, but then the world situation, flights or laws and regulations in Sweden or Spain around Covid19 make you unable to come, you will be able to rebook your accommodation for another occasion during 2020-2021.

In addition, we will change throughout 2020 to full payment no later than 10 days before arrival instead of the normal 30 days, so we can together decide if you can come to us safely before payment.

In the event of illness or other cancellation due to a doctor's certificate, it applies as usual that the booking fee and any final payment is recovered via your own travel insurance.

Our new rules do not apply to flight bookings, here we refer to the respective company's rules. Bookable excursions for summer and autumn we will return to hopefully in early June.

20/03/15

As of today, as part of keeping the spread of infection away, Nerja has a curfew for "unnecessary matters". Yesterday afternoon, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on its website a recommendation on travel to all countries, which is valid until 14 April.

20/03/14

Due to news today in Sweden that "the whole of Spain is in quarantine" - this is the media's word choice that the president YESTERDAY declared a national emergency (highest preparedness as we say in Sweden). This means that very much is shut down for 14 days as a security measure to prevent the spread of infection within the country. Nerja will have beaches, cultural centers, parks, schools, places to visit, most restaurants, etc. closed as a preventive measure to prevent the spread. Everyone is encouraged to stay at home. #stayathome Our information is that flights home to Sweden go as planned. We have our emergency number open for questions (leave phone number and we will call) and for travelers who are here we will have an information meeting at 13 tomorrow Sunday for our Winter Travel Group who will go home on Monday, and extra open by the Travel Agency tomorrow Sunday at 14-16. A new speech by the president will be held tomorrow at 10.30. Of course, the situation changes quickly, we work every hour to have current and correct information.

20/03/12

Based on new Corona directives today from local Spanish authorities and our own safety assessment for our guests and staff, we are unfortunately forced to cancel all our excursions from tomorrow 13/3 now during March & April. All registered will get their money back. If you book excursions for later this year during March & April, you have free cancellation or rebooking up to 14 days before the excursion. This replaces our regular cancellation rules for all excursions during the period 20-03-13 - 20-04-30.

20/03/11: The corona virus now of course affects everyone in the whole world in different ways. The sun is still shining here, life in Nerja is rolling on as usual (except that the hand alcohol is out of the pharmacies, just like in Sweden ..), and we here at the office on Calle Granada 62 are constantly answering your questions about your trip and stay here in Nerja.

Right now, there is no high risk of infection here in the province of Malaga. Here you can follow the situation locally in Spain, with the number of infected on a map and which places where found infected are etc. The cases discovered so far in and on the other side of Malaga, are about people who have been to Italy, and their family / friends who have been infected. How the virus is transmitted and how to best protect yourself, there is constantly new research and advice on.

Basics about canceling and rebooking our trips, regarding:

As long as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not advise against traveling to the Malaga region, our usual cancellation rules apply. See below. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to a country, you who have booked a package trip may be entitled to a refund. Follow the Foreign Ministry's recommendations and advice, for example here on Facebook:

Our excursions run for the time being as usual. As long as there are no identified cases in the Nerja area or an obvious risk of the spread of infection, we believe that there is no security reason, or that financially affecting local suppliers for whom our excursions are important income. If there are any changes in the future, new information will come here, and all registered will be emailed. BokaNerja obviously follows the development around the Corona virus. There are no cases of illness at all right now in the Malaga region, and all travel companies' usual cancellation rules apply. Here in little Nerja, everything is just as usual and the sun is shining. If you are still worried about your trip, we recommend that you, like us, follow information from the authorities. The coronavirus is currently classified as a variant of an influenza virus, but a new variety that we humans have not had time to build resistance to, and therefore we become more easily infected. It is transmitted through so-called drip infection. To simply breathe the air in an airplane or go to public toilets can thus not be contagious, according to information from the Swedish Public Health Agency.

https://www.folkhalsomyndigheten.se/smittskydd-beredskap/smittsamma-sjukdomar/coronavirus/fragor-och-svar-om-nytt-coronavirus/
"At present we know that coronavirus is spread through contact between humans or through coughing and sneezing, so-called drip infection."
A general preventative measure against respiratory infections is to avoid touching the face or eyes and to avoid close contact with sick people. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, before meals, food handling and after a toilet visit. Hand sanitizer may be an option when you do not have the option of hand washing. "
"The mouth guard does not protect you who are healthy from infection. However, those who are ill can to some extent protect the environment from liquid particles during, for example, coughing and sneezing."
